J. Alfred Smith Jr., Ph.D.


In 2005, Dr. J. Alfred Smith, Jr. returned to SFSU as a lecturer in Africana Religion after previously serving in this capacity from 1989-2001. Dr. Smith also serves as the Senior Pastor of the Antioch Baptist Church of San Jose and Co-Chair of the Civil Rights Commission for the Progressive National Baptist Convention, Inc. He earned his Doctor of Ministry (D. Min) from San Francisco Theological Seminary and brings a deep respect for the diverse religions/ spiritualities of the Africana experience. In 2005, Dr. J.
