A Lesson In Regression
Low Tech Communication in the Digital Age
Technological progress has merely provided us with more efficient means for going backwards. -Aldous Huxley
Premise: We created a low tech system of communication using a combination of 9 different arm signals and 3 different colored flags. The following alphabetical code system was used to send and receive a simple message over a distance of approximately 100 yards. The sender posed with one of 9 arm signals at a time, holding a certain colored flag. A black flag would be raised by the receiver when the letter was translated. The sender would then raise a black flag before the next letter would be sent.
Dan holds up a flag sending the signal for one letter.
So what did we learn?
In terms of speed and distance, our ability to communicate using our low tech system of communication is vastly inferior to modern communication technology.
