Shooting an actress
FOr my CINE 202 class I have to make a still photo film, the story has to be based on our real life story, so I'm taking a story about the birth of my granddaughter, and about the mother who had to go through a hard time to decide whether she wanted to keep the pregnancy or not, because the pregnancy was an accidental mistake. SHe did not want to have anything to do with my film so I have to hire an actress an an actor for my student film. This actress is from UC Davies, and my actor is from SFSU, I shoot them separately, and put them together digitally for the film.

I Wish I was Born in a Hollywood Movie
This web site presents the images of locations reminiscent of cinema noir. This collection of scenes serve as real-world counterpoints to Hollywood’s glamorized representations of life. By clicking each images new images overwraps on the previous image, and you can see new mood of the screen. The concept and the use of photo images are simple, and "I wish I was born in a Hollywood Movie" is pretty common wish among people, especially women?, all over the world. But when it made out by the author, totally different world came up. This gap of the moods between actual Hollywood Movies and this website is very interesting.

Urban dictionary: 'Hella' good site
From Yahoo's 'Best of the Web,' a website dedicated to the definitions of all cultural and slang refrences in modern society, like a modern dictionary. It is a simple, clear, easy to navigate site that appears to be user-based, with a voting system in place to determine if a definition is accurate or not. There are chatrooms, a live 'book' recording the activity of the site as it happens, but using relatively simplistic technology and browser information. The site seems to evolve to cultural sways and creates a 'cultural library,' to be preserved for our future, to look back on in shame.

Herinnerdingen – Things to remember
From the 2007 Prix Ars Electronica Digital Community Prizes is Herinnerdingen. It is a site that allows for children to make monuments for deceased loved ones using pictures and sounds that are uploaded to the site. These pictures then become part of a mosaic that resembles a larger picture, such as a cow or a flower. Visitors can search for relevant monuments by using parameters such as relation and age. This site is very personal and must be very theraputic for the children who made it. There is a also a large sense of community because children can know that they are not the only ones who have lost a loved one; people can even email each other through the site. Unfortunately the site is in another language, but the pictures are powerful enough that you don't necessarily need to understan the text to get the emotionsd behind the monuments.

"Panel Junction" by Andy Deck
(2006 Rhizome) In this website, Deck created a space for artists to work together toward the common goal of creating a collaborative comic. The site allowed people from all over the world to interact and contribute to it with their input and/or drawings. The final product was a downloadable/printable 12 page graphic novel. I feel that this is a strong web art piece because of its unique authoring stlye and implications of an online community.

"The Freecycle Network"
(2006 ars electronica) This website promotes an online community that is all about a gift economy. The site embraces the idea that one man's trash is another man's treasure and that that "trash" should be free! Through the site the viewer can easily become part of the group and see who's giving out what in their area. It feels good to give and to get; so I feel that this network is a powerful one where the member can have fun and even make a difference.

Eternal Sunset
(Rhizome commission for 2006) Eternal Sunset continually shows live images of the sunset using existing online webcams from all over the world. As the sunset moves westward, Eternal Sunset tunes into different webcams. The idea of this web site is very simple. Visually, the live images of the sunset is amazingly beautiful. The concept of this website, which tells you can see the sunset wherever you are, makes me feel like the world is always connected to me. Pulse Pool
From Rhizome 2007, a pulse monitor is attached to individuals, which relays to a water dropper which drops water into the pool, determined by the person's pulse and position in the building. Reminds me a bit about 'Big Brother' chip implanting, but also of an interconnectedness with our fellow humans. Emphasizes both negative and positive aspects of culture.

RealSnailMail
RealSnailMail is a satirical experiment that asks the question, " is there a space in our speed obsessed world for a service that takes time?" The creators answer their own question with a "yes", and so we meet the snails. Real snails collecting and distributing digital messages. The site includes profiles for the snail mail couriers, a blog detailing certain events, a contract for terms of use, and links to press about the project. It's a fun site to wander through and is very easy to navigate. On the downside, the site isn't interactive beyond the ability of others to comment on the blog, and a page dedicated to video streaming only leads to a still picture. Overall the site is effective as a social commentary on the downside of our fast paced world, and provides a satirical solution.

Semapedia
Semapedia attempts to connect physical real world objects with electronic information via Wikipedia and barcodes. People can print out barcodes linking to Wikipedia pages which are then attached to real world objects such as buildings or statues. The barcode tags are cell phone readable. As a fan of Wikipedia and cell phone barcode systems; I found this site to be very interesting. The idea of "hyperlinking your world" is fascinating. I like the idea of blurring the line between the real and virtual worlds.

T.S.A. Communication
The performance art concept for this project is quite original with a strong political statement. The creator's intention is to create metal signs with messages cut into them so when the sign is inserted into your carry-on luggage the sign will be read by the transportation security administration as it passes through x-rays. Messages such as"nothing to see here" and "mind your own business" speaks to the loss of privacy experienced by travelers. The site is minimal with pictures and descriptions regarding the preoject. Links are also included to other sites and pages that further detail the project, though there's little in the way of public correspondence or interaction. The site may not be too innovative but the concept of the artists project is.

The Story of Stuff
From its extraction through sale, use and disposal, all the stuff in our lives affects communities at home and abroad, yet most of this is hidden from view. The Story of Stuff is a 20-minute, fast-paced, fact-filled look at the underside of our production and consumption patterns. The Story of Stuff exposes the connections between a huge number of environmental and social issues, and calls us together to create a more sustainable and just world. It'll teach you something, it'll make you laugh, and it just may change the way you look at all the stuff in your life forever.

White Glove Tracking~ Emily
from RHIZOME 2007: An amazing interactive multi artist piece that allows anyone on the web to download data of Michael Jackson's white glove traced from his famous performance of Billie Jean and use any application to alter it. I love it because it allows the web to be a tool in creating collaborative multimedia art. My favorite piece was Shapely by Jung-Hoon Seo because it uses the glove tracking to create a shifting, morphing image of Jackson's many personas. Much like our real experiences with pop icons, we never get to see a whole "picture" of Jackson- only disconnected pieces that represent a person.

Women on the Web
ARS Electronica honorable mention. Pretty good resource for the ladies. You can read what other ladies have to say about their abortions: "Type of abortion: by myself ...im not sure...i am 61 days pregnant..im lying in my bed while you read this..listening to music...i canot cry... i just wait... i have taken cytotec...and paracetamol... and like i said im just counting the minutes...the hours... i feel secure with my method."

google will eat itself
the artists use googles ad payment service to get to other sites to link. The artists turn this on its head to make money and do xxx. This was actually posted by Steve.

sunsets forever
his is my first pick. When picking my sites I did not read any descriptions but rather went straight to the site and saw if it interested me without me knowing anything about it. I really enjoyed this site, something very intriguing with the idea of eternalizing something so organic with technology.
